"That was crazy. That was like one of those experiences you like… The great thing about it now is you can rent DVDs of… I remember I went out and bought The Best of Will Ferrell and it has his audition on it. And, uh, and I just watched that and was like, ok, cool. Now I know what to be like prepared for, you know. Umm. But you always hear things like they, you know, umm, they won’t laugh. You know, no one laughs. You’re kinda just doing it. It feels like you’re doing it to an empty room, like all this stuff. And I actually went up the elevator with Andy Samberg. That was when we met. We were going into audition. And I remember Andy had a backpack on with tons of props. And I was looking at him going, ‘Oh, no I don’t have any props. Oh, man that guy’s got props.’ And he, and then he said he was looking at me going ‘That guy doesn’t have any props. He doesn’t need props. Why do I have props?’ (laughs) And so we like walked out together like ‘Hey, man, how’s it going?’ And then, uh, and then I went up and they went ‘You’re gonna be going up first.’ And I was like ‘Ok. Alright.’ And I was just like… and you sit in a dressing room just like sitting there waiting and then I was waiting forever and then I heard people, like, someone doing their audition… and they - they kinda purposely kinda put you off balance. You know what I mean? So they go, ‘You’re gonna go later.’ and I went ‘Ok. Cool’ And then the guy turned right around and went ‘You’re going right now.’ And I was like ‘Wait, what? Oh, ok.’ And.. and… and so you go in and there’s just like this table of like Lorne Michaels, Tina Fey, uh, Steve Higgins, all the producers… everybody’s there. And I remember the first thing I did was Vinny Vedecci, the Italian talk show host. I just went into the voice. And, uh, I heard Tina Fey laughed. And I just immediately relaxed. She was like, she went ‘Ha!’, like that, and I went (sigh). And I just totally relaxed and actually had a lot of fun doing the audition and I don’t, yeah. I forever thank her for just that thing, just made me like… might have got me the job because I was just having fun up there. I was like ‘Oh, good she laughed. Well, at least I could say Tina Fey thought it was funny.’"

rufustfirefly:

30 Rock, at its best, is like a vaudeville show, where Tina Fey and her collaborators will do just about anything to entertain you and make you laugh. They’ll toss in some relatively sophisticated jokes for the people who watch this show and want to hear satirical humor or political gags. They’ll toss in really broad stuff to show that they both have a healthy respect for tradition and know they can make you laugh via slapstick or something similar. And they’ll do the most random and absurdist stuff, all the better to make you laugh by weirding you out.

(I’m only familiar with the 2003-2010 cast, and I couldn’t find pretty pictures of everyone I like. I hereby apologize to Parnell and Hammond.)
